Who Killed the Malfoys and Goyles?

I haven't had an update for this journal in ages. I don't think anyone reads this blog, so I figured doing some Easter Egg type thing here. People so far haven't been venturing guesses as to who the killer is. The killer is more dangerous than he or she appears. Scorpius' scar actually is very much like Harry's because it connects him to the killer.

This story is a very long one, and I knew it going in. The pacing was the problem to start with and it took ages before I could figure out the pacing to make it comfy enough to readers to read on the computer. Draco's job hasn't been speculated as well. His job is understandable.

Truth be told, I have been sort of working on a prequel of this work. It's going to be about how Draco and Astoria came to become Scorpius' parents and how Draco became the man he was in this story. The latest chapter about the Goyles' funeral explains a bit of a background of how Draco and Astoria ended up married in the first place. Scorpius was partly the result of a combination of grandparents' unified manipulation, blackmail, and parents' love. It is more of a romantic drama than this one which is really more of a drama.

I may start writing that up a bit because it will be shorter than the current story. Astoria's character is much like Scorpius' where we don't know what she's like. Draco is a different character than in the books. I look forward to seeing how he will be in the next movie. The last two movies I skipped going to in the theaters. I promised my dad that I'd go to the next one. I kind of have a reason to because Draco Malfoy's prominently in the plot this time around. It will help me write the stories.

More chapters in...

I haven't updated since the second chapter. So far I'm up to chapter six. One of my favorite chapters is chapter seven because it was such fun to write. I wish that I could reveal more, but it will come out soon enough. I also noticed the changes on the website.

I was going to keep the coupling closed for the story, but obviously pairings are very important to fanfiction. People are probably wondering when Lily and Scorpius will have a real scene together. I hope when those scenes show up that they will be worth the wait. Scorpius is supposed to be sort of like Harry Potter, while Lily is more like her mother or grandmother.

Lily in this story may not be as snarky or as witty as her mother, but that comes from being shy about being the child of such famous people and coming from such a well-known family. She will start out pretty much the same way that Ginny did, which is rather a bit of a mystery until the story goes on.

Partly this story draws parallels from the original. Scorpius does have a scar, but no one can see it. It does have a role in the story. I have tried to stay away from original characters as much as possible because this next generation of characters are almost like blank slates to work with anyway. I have read other fanfics and read how people did characterize Scorpius. I suppose some of my characterizations are a bit different than what most people wrote.

Astoria is another character that very little is known about her. She's sort of a mystery. Her character was inspired by Penny Widmore from Lost. She is strong and dignified, yet there is a certain about of likable vulnerability that I wrote about her. As most people have figured out that Harry Potter may look like his father, but his personality is more from his mother. Scorpius is built to be about the same way. His outward appearance, even some of his more surface personality quirks are very much like Draco's, but inwardly I wanted to make him more like the Astoria that I have written.

When I first started writing this story, I was thinking about how I could incorporate characters that were side characters to center stage. I have done so with Neville Longbottom. He slowly grew on me, and there are more people like him in school rather than like Harry and Hermione or even Ron. In my story, he is a very good professor who knows what it is like to struggle with things and hold things in. I also wanted a father figure for Scorpius who was an even more unlikely choice than Harry or Ron.

Music likewise plays an important role. I have always loved music, but never learned how to play any instruments. I have relatives who learned how to play and are very proficient at it. It takes time and patience as well as discipline to learn how to play. Scorpius comes off a little Gary Sue at certain points, but he does have his flaws, which will be relieved as the story goes on.

Chapter Two Up

The second chapter is up. I had some difficulties determining whether or not I wanted to combine the chapter with the next one, but thought better of it and left it off. Right now I am in the process of re-reading some of the books, focusing more on stuff about the Malfoys and their actions in the story. I have a feeling as I read about Narcissa Malfoy's introduction that she was probably unhappy because she was at a Quidditch match and she doesn't strike me as a woman who would be interested in that sort of thing.

Anyway, as the story progresses, Scorpius' personality will come out more. He is something of an enigma right now. Although comparisons will be drawn between him and Harry as the story goes on, he does have a distinctive Malfoy streak to him. The wonderful thing is that the characters, even though they are in the canon, are blank slates and can be easily molded to use.

I was going to put up a preview for the next chapter on here, but it's not long enough to warrant that. I doubt anyone is going over here trying to figure out what happens next.

The Characters

I neglected to include the title when I typed up the little summary for it. It's "The Inquisitor's Son." I wanted to include a character rundown prior to the posting even if no one reads this, I can refer back to it. It does contain spoilers for the story and it's for my benefit more than anyone else's. One character has been left off the list on purpose. It is a mystery after all.

I have very few OCs for this piece.

Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy - The only child of Astoria and Draco Malfoy. His parents were murdered, leaving him an orphan on his thirteenth birthday. He is left with a scar and horrific memories as he attempts to live after so much is taken from him. He is scorned at school for being the son of a former Death Eater and for his family getting away with their crimes during the second wizarding war.

Draco Malfoy - The father of Scorpius and the husband of Astoria. A man of mystery who had spent the last twenty years or so out of the spotlight in order to for his family. Shunned by most wizarding circles, he has done more than anyone is ever meant to find out.

Astoria Malfoy - The beautiful and talent mother of Scorpius Malfoy and the devoted wife of Draco. She is a talented violinist and cellist who is well known the wizarding world and a graduate of WADA. She entered into an arranged marriage with Draco Malfoy at the age of sixteen.

Narcissa Malfoy - The mother of Draco Malfoy and grandmother of Scorpius. She assumes guardianship of her grandson after the slayings of his parents. She is protective of him and will stop at nothing to keep him safe. She and her husband, Lucius, are at odds with each other. As the story progresses, a nasty divorce takes place.

Lucius Malfoy - The father of Draco Malfoy and grandfather of Scorpius. He hasn't given up his ideals of pure blood wizards being the superior ones. He all but disowns his grandson after his son is murdered.

Neville Longbottom - He is the Herbology professor of Hogwarts and head of the Gryffindor House. He is forced into taking an Unbreakable Vow with Draco with Astoria as their bonder. He vows to keep Scorpius safe in the event of their deaths. He becomes Scorpius' DADA teacher and pseudo-guardian while Scorpius is in school.

Harry Potter - No need for a real introduction, but for this story he is the lead investigator for the Malfoys' murders. He realizes that he has a unique connection to Scorpius through the tragedic circumstances that surround the deaths of the latter's parents.

Ron Weasley - The second in command of the Aurors after Harry Potter. He is Harry's right hand man who detests paperwork, but is more than capable of leading the Aurors in Harry's absence if need be. Scorpius prefers Ron to Harry.

Teddy Lupin - The orphan son of Remus and Nymphdora "Tonks" Lupin. He is Scorpius' cousin, their grandmothers are sisters, and he look out for Scorpius much like an older brother. He is Harry Potter's godson, but is fiercely protective of his cousin. He is dating Victoire Weasley, the daughter of Bill and Fleur Weasley. His grandmother, Andromeda, is supportive of her sister's ongoing divorce from Lucius Malfoy.

Lily Luna Potter - A first year Gryffindor. She is the youngest child and only daughter of Harry and Ginny Potter. Somewhat shy because of her parents' reputations, she falls hard for Scorpius Malfoy.

Albus Severus Potter - The middle child of Harry and Ginny Potter. He is in the same year as Scorpius and the two become friends during their third year. He is sensitive and compassionate. He has the same problem as Lily, trying to adjust to life as the child of a very famous couple.

James Sirius Potter - The eldest child of Harry and Ginny Potter. Unlike his siblings, he is well grounded with the fame that surrounds the family. He develops an instant dislike of Scorpius Malfoy. He and Albus have a typical brother relationship.

Fred Weasley - The son of George and Angelina Weasley. He is one of Albus' closest friends as well as his cousin. At first he is reluctant to be friends with Scorpius, but eventually is won over by the sweets that Narcissa Malfoy frequently sends Scorpius who shares them.

Rose Weasley - The daughter of Ron and Hermione and their first child. She looks like her mother but takes her coloring from her father. She is driven and ambitious. Scoprius is a slacker, who she knows is potential competition for grades, even though he refuses to take their classes seriously. They have two third year electives together.

Roxanne Weasley - The daughter of George and Angelina Weasley. Fred's younger sister is the same age as their cousin, Lily, and is more aware of what is going on than others. She is the first person to notice Lily's crush on Scorpius and attempts to help her as best as she can.

Ginny Potter - Ginny is the wife of Harry and the mother of James, Albus, and Lily. She is the first adult to notice her daughter's affections for Scorpius. She doesn't discourage this, but doesn't encourage it either. She sympathizes with her daughter's feelings, having had experienced them herself at that age.

Daphne Goyle - The older sister of Astoria and one of the two famous Greengrass sisters. Unlike her sister, she excelled in art and became a celebrity fashion designer and went on to marry Gregory Goyle. She is murdered in her bed.

Gregory Goyle - One of Draco Malfoy's oldest friends and one of his most trusted confidants. He is murdered along with the rest of his family.

The Original Characters

Naomi Wellington - The only original character of importance to the story. She is a half blood with a Muggle father and a witch mother. She is a Ravenclaw and a year behind Scorpius. She has a chip on her shoulder for reasons not quite revealed early on and Albus Potter develops strong feelings for her.

Ally Longbottom - The daughter of Neville and Hannah Longbottom. Her formal name is Alice, but she prefers to go by Ally. She is four years old and looks up to her father's friends' kids. She forms an attachment to Scorpius later on.

Sabine Renoir - The daughter of Gabrielle Delacour. She appears only in one chapter in attendance of Lily's twelfth birthday party at the Leaky Cauldron. She is obviously jealous and petty, but she is also beautiful and part Veela on both sides of her family. She turns it on the presence of Scorpius Malfoy.

Alfred Macmillian - The son of Ernie Macmillian and the first date of Lily Potter for the school dance. Unfortunately, his reasons for going out of her are less than noble. He only goes out with her because she's a Potter.

Diana Goyle - The first daughter of Gregory and Daphne Goyle. She was six years old when she is murdered in her bed.

Annie Goyle - The four year old, youngest child of Greogory and Daphne Goyle. She is four years old when she is murdered.

New Story, Different Category

I finally got around to putting in an actual entry here. Here is the next story summary before I upload the first chapter.

"Scorpius Malfoy is the sole survivor of a brutal attack that takes the lives of both his parents, leaving him an orphan in world where he already feels like an outcast. Post DH-epilogue story with the second generation characters and minimal OC involved."

It's going to be a very long story, much longer than the last story I did. As for this journal, there will be some additional analysis of chapters and notes as well as extra writings that don't make the final cut. Sometimes I write stuff that simply cannot be added to the final drafts. Oh and previews of upcoming chapters.

Any real excuses for lack of updates, read the twitter. I will put minimal excuses on this journal.
